From the rust and gold leaves of autumn through to the cheery red hearts of Valentine's Day, warm colors--and sentiments to match--imbue this cozy collection of crafts, recipes, and meditations on family holiday celebrations. The collection is organized seasonally, with each activity rated for difficulty. Some are simple enough to complete in an hour or so (sketching snowflakes, painting rocks), but many others (needle felting, homemade Christmas-tree decorations) become elaborate weekend projects to involve the whole family. And family involvement is key here: though lovely, the finished products are a means by which adults can lead children in explorations of natural materials and in building or nurturing traditions. Thirty members of the Wild and Free homeschooling community contributed to the content here, which brings some diversity to the collected projects, but the emphasis remains on European-American traditions, including many Christmas projects. An earthy, lovely collection ideal for bringing hygge (the Danish-Norwegian word for a feeling of coziness and contentment) into holiday celebrations.
