A group of kids must stop invaders before they take over Titus—and the rest of the universe—in this first book in a brand-new series from bestselling Pegasus author Kate O'Hearn, who masterfully blends mystery and mythology together.
Fifteen years ago, Olympus was destroyed and the Olympians were resettled on Titus. Since then Earth has been declared a quarantined world. Neither Titans nor Olympians are allowed to visit and under no circumstances are humans allowed on Titus. The Titans and Olympians are keeping the peace. But the deep-seated mistrust still lingers, so when a human ends up on Titus, he could be the spark that reignites the war...

Astraea is a Titan, granddaughter of Hyperion, and now a reluctant student at the brand-new school, Arcadia. She just knows that it's going to be awful, and that there is no way that Titans and Olympians will ever get along! At least she's got her best friend, a winged-horse named Zephyr, to keep her company. Then the night before the first day of school, Astraea hears her parents discussing something terrifying: a human has been spotted on Titus. But that's not possible. All routes to Earth via the Solar Stream have been closed—no one can travel between the two worlds...or can they?

When Astraea and Zephyr get detention on their first day—for fighting with a centaur—they're sent to the orchards to harvest nectar. There they discover a human boy named Jake. How he got to Titus is a mystery even to him. But Astraea and Zephyr know they have to get Jake home before anyone else discovers him.

But what the trio uncovers is something much bigger than one misplaced human boy. It's a scheme to take down the rulers of this world, conquer it, and then do the same across the galaxy. Can a group of kids stop the invaders? Or is Titus, like Olympus before it, doomed?

A spinoff of the Pegasus series starring plucky young heroes trying to save the world of Titus from an existential threat. Titan Astraea and best friend Zephyr, her winged equine (she is not a "horse"!), are starting at a new, integrated school for both Titans and Olympians, established to help ease tensions between the two peoples now that they share one world. A conflict with an Olympian student lands them in detention right away, where they discover a forbidden human boy, Jake. Jake's not the first human to mysteriously appear on Titus lately, and so they, along with silver-skinned Tryn, a fellow new student who is half human, half Rhean, keep Jake concealed while trying to find his missing sister and to discover who is bringing humans to Titus. Their investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with highly dangerous invaders already infiltrating the highest levels of society. The writing is simplistic and easy to follow, though the story rhythm is disrupted by repetitions and reminders of plot points that pad out the page count. While characters from O'Hearn's Pegasus series are mentioned many times and appear briefly, saving the day this time is up to a new crop of heroes who must learn to work together. In a sharp pace change, the sequel-prompting climax (after the 400-page mark) is rushed. Both blond, Astraea and Jake present white. For fans of world-hopping adventure flavored with mythology, magic, and pretty wings on characters. (Fantasy. 8-13)

Gr 5-8-Astraea is a Titan teen whose best friend is Zephyr, a cloned granddaughter of Pegasus. It has been 15 years since Olympus was destroyed. To encourage friendship between the Titans and Olympians now living in the same world, all children are sent to the same school. Astraea is reluctant to attend, and tension runs high among the students. As Astraea meets Tryn from Xanadu, weird things happen on Titus, like the arrival of Earthlings and a change in the adult leaders, who seem to be possessed. Banding together with a boy from Earth named Jake and a herd of belligerent centaurs, the kids try to find out what secrets lie in the rooms under the school and save Titus in the process. Though the kids all have special powers, they also have regular teenage problems, and O'Hearn uses humor to lighten the mood. The teens' endeavors to understand those from different worlds may inspire readers to do the same here on Earth. VERDICT Fans of Rick Riordan's series will be taken with these characters who learn to be heroes in order to rescue those they love.-Elizabeth Kahn, Patrick F.
