New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries brings her "hallmark humor, poignancy, and sensuality" (RT Book Reviews) to this first of the sparkling Hellions of Hallstead Hall series following the roguishly handsome and rakish Sharpe siblings.
Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoneville, has been London's most notorious rake for years. Fed up with his behavior, his grandmother threatens to disinherit him if he doesn't tame his wild ways and wed within the year. Outraged, Oliver decides to hire a woman from a brothel to pose as his fiancée to prove that he can't be forced into marriage.

When he meets Maria Butterfield, a beautiful American woman who is searching for her fiancé in the most unlikely of places, he knows she's perfect for his ruse. But before long, Oliver finds himself willing to risk anything to make Maria his—even his heart, and the dark secret he hides inside it.

With "delectably witty dialogue, subtly named characters, and scorching sexual chemistry between two perfectly matched protagonists" (Booklist), this is an unputdownable and charming romance.

Children of parents who died in a notorious murder-suicide, the five Sharpe siblings have been behaving outrageously for years. Their grandmother threatens to cut them out of her will unless they settle down and marry within the year, so the eldest, Oliver, Marquess of Stoneville, hatches the perfect plan. Unfortunately, he brings home an American heiress in search of her missing fianc as his "betrothed" instead of the doxy he'd intended. Reprising a charming reprobate from her "School for Heiresses" series as her hero, Jeffries has launched a another sparkling series with winning potential. VERDICT Lively repartee, fast action, luscious sensuality, and an abundance of humor make the first installment of the "Hellions of Halstead Hall" essential for libraries. Jeffries ("Wed Him Before You Bed Him") lives in North Carolina.

Oliver Sharpe, the Marquess of Stoneville, needs a fianc'e fast or his autocratic grandmother is not only going to disinherit Oliver but his four siblings, too. Olivers plan to hire a fianc'e at one of Londons brothels quickly changes when he runs into Maria Butterfield. Not only is Maria an annoyingly outspoken commoner; she is American, which is enough to have Olivers grandmother quickly rescinding her decree. All Oliver has to do to secure Marias assistance is to help her find her own fianc', Nathan Hyatt, who vanished after arriving in London several weeks ago. There is just one small problem: once Oliver locates Marias fianc', he may find it difficult to let the lady go. The first in a captivating new Regency-set series by the always entertaining Jeffries, this tale has all of the authors signature elements: delectably witty dialogue, subtly nuanced characters, and scorching sexual chemistry between two perfectly matched protagonists.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2010, American Library Association.)
