Integrating elements of Chinese medicine, personalized nutrition, and “extrasensory energy medicine,” natural health practitioner Mincolla’s “Whole Health Healing System” offers a multifaceted program to help readers address health problems without resorting to traditional Western methods. Diving into the deep end of the pool, Mincolla’s claims of distance healing may not be the best way to begin his argument, but he patiently makes his case for an individualized approach to, and taking ownership of, one’s healthcare. Common-sense tactics, such as avoiding processed foods and exercising, are intermingled with an Eastern approach to managing the body’s natural tendencies in an effort to give readers a greater sense of control. In most cases, this is sound and harmless, although his assertion that readers with an allergy to certain foods like peanuts and shellfish can test their sensitivities by simply thinking about said food is alarming. That said, health devotees interested in cultivating positivity and a measured approach to overall health, as opposed to relying on prescriptions and Western medicine, will likely find the book thought-provoking and worthy of further investigation. Mincolla, a natural health practitioner for more than 30 years, exhaustively details his "Whole Health Healing System," which helps individuals to balance holistically their energy, body, and mind. The system incorporates Chinese medicine, personalized nutrition, and "extrasensory energy medicine." Energy is the cornerstone of the system. Initially, a patient goes through an "Energy Diagnosis," an electromagnetic muscle-testing system "designed to monitor the body's energy fluctuations"; the test results can then be used to start healing body imbalances. The other strands of the process include body, nutritional, mind, and spirit balancing. The book is very thorough and intricately details complex concepts. It may take work to follow all the strands, but readers who feel an affinity with this approach to health care will find much to interest them, as the author is passionate and dedicated. VERDICT This book details a highly specific treatment plan developed by one individual. In the proof copy there is no bibliography of independent research to help support the ideas within the text, so it should be made available alongside titles that cover traditional medicine therapies so readers will have access to an unbiased collection of information.--Elizabeth J.
