Bestseller Johansen completes her Eve Duncan trilogy that began with Taking Eve and Hunting Eve with this slam-bang paranormal thriller. The three novels, numbers 15 through 17 in the larger series, follow forensic sculptor Eve's kidnapping by James Doane; Doane's attempts to force her to reconstruct the head of his murdered son, Kevin Relling; and Doane's efforts to use her as bait to lure assassin Lee Zander, Eve's putative father and the man who killed Kevin, to his death. Eve's many friends mobilize their various psychic skills (e.g., Margaret Douglas has the ability to sense animal thoughts) and put aside their animosities in a strenuous effort to save her. Add husband Joe Quinn, adopted daughter Jane MacGuire, and Jane's suitors, Seth Caleb and Mark Trevor, and the crew is almost complete. Johansen milks her characters for romance, drama, suspense, conflict, and even the ultimate sacrifice as the contest is waged on both human and spiritual planes in this cataclysmic conclusion.
